Doctor, Which toothpaste should I use ???

The commonest question asked from any dentist. Doctor, which toothpaste is best??? Unless otherwise prescribed for specific dental or oral condition any fluoride containing toothpaste is good enough. The technique of tooth brushing is much more important than the choice of toothpaste. It’s the mechanical action of tooth brush which plays a very important role in the removal of plaque. As a matter of fact none of us learnt the right way of using toothbrush since the beginning of tooth brushing in our lives. Its something which is thought to be either obvious or as told by the elders. Simply grab a brush, load it with toothpaste (as seen in the tooth paste ads) and start scrubbing your teeth. Moreover we presume that it’s the outer surface of front teeth only which needs to be brushed. Classically we underestimate and usually ignore those areas of our mouth and teeth where the chances of plaque and calculus formation are maximum. but we are persistent, devoted to our cause of cleaning our teeth, so much so that with the rigorous consistent brushing some of us manage to (you won’t believe it but yes) cut down the hardest substance of the body, THE TOOTH ENAMEL with the help of nylon bristles of our tooth brushes. Toothpastes contain fluoride to protect us against cavities. But this alone cant help in preventing tooth caries, gum diseases. Tooth brushing technique is very important. Moreover as tooth pastes contain fluoride, and we use them daily or twice daily (for those who actually listen to their dentists!) so it becomes very important that we use the right quantity of toothpaste. No not as shown in the tooth paste commercials, not the tooth brush full is required, just equal to the size of a Pea is enough. You can choose any tooth paste containing fluoride and moderate amount of abrasives, called as dentifrices. In case of a specific symptoms like sensitivity, bad breath etc your dentist may recommend a special toothpaste for some time, but that is prescribed to you only and that too for the prescribed time only. Ultimately what matters most is the tooth brushing technique. For the same consult your dentist for a live demo.
